Simple Meditation that sticks.

MindGarden

What is Mindgarden:
MindGarden is an app that turns consistent meditation into a beautiful garden. This app encourages people to make meditating a habit.
Team: 1 Developer 1 Designer
My Role: Lead UX/UI Designer
Duration: May 2021 - Present

Project Overview:

Problem:
Many people hear about all the benefits that meditation can provide and the number of people who meditate have more than tripled since 2012. Yet many people struggle to consistently meditate and give up before any they see any of the benefits.
Solution:
Growing plants take time starting from the seed, one can't plant the seed an expect to see results in one day. So we combined the idea of planting with meditation.

"How do we get people to consistently meditate?"

Is this really a problem?[Research]

Research

Initial Research

On almost every website when looking up why people do not meditate, one of these 3 reasons always pop up.
1." It’s Hard to Cultivate A New Meditation Habit and/or Maintain The Habit."
2. "I tried meditation and it just didn’t work." (it's boring)
3. "I just don't have time"

Research

User Interviews

We interviewed 3 people each with a different meditation background.
In the group of people who do not use meditation, we saw a trend which compared to our initial research.

Competitive Analysis

The leaders in meditation apps are Headspace and Calm so we throughly went through the apps reviews to pinpoint the positive and negative points

Initial Mockups

I mocked up a quick guide line of what the main pages would like and what the general theme would be.

Modern Twist [Changes]

We wanted the app to be very modern yet still have fun colorful aspects so we decided to use neumorphism in the designs while still putting in pops of color.
These are the original mock ups done in figma, I played around with buttons and nav bar colors.

Reflect

Designing an app from start to finish is something I have not done before. I learned a lot through this process and really taking lead on the design taught me a lot. This was the first time I worked closely with developers and I got to learn all the important aspects of making an app. Since we were creating a whole app and brand, it was essential for us to communicate and create an app that also aligned with how we wanted to represent Mindgarden the brand.

I feel that I still have a lot to learn and there are definitely ways to improve the app, but overall I do feel I have grown through this design challenge and I am excited for the launch of the app.
